Project Spring is back after the success of our first ever spring cleaning activity last year!:) On 29th March 2014, our Metro Leos and many kind volunteers helped the elderly living alone in either one or two-room flats at Ghim Moh to clean their units. This time round, we were glad to have Youth Cop members from Kent Ridge Secondary School and Students Care Service Clementi Centre to join us for this meaningful event. We hope that more youths will be encouraged to volunteer and participate in service projects to help the needy.
With many helping hands, we managed to clean four units within a few hours time. We felt accomplished seeing the fruits of our labour and the priceless smiles on the elderly face!:)
While doing serious work, our volunteers also spent time chatting with the elderly and some of them have many life stories to share with us. It is always nice to chat with the elderly and lend a listening ear.
This is my first time helping out in the spring cleaning project. The household that I helped to clean was an uncle living by himself. His house has a lot of stuff that he could not clear by his own due to his recent leg injury. However, with our help, he managed to clear most of his old stuff. I believed that not only me but the rest of the volunteers that had helped him felt accomplished too. It was a great help for him. Through this service project, I can feel the loneliness of the elderly living by themselves. They kept a lot of stuff to themselves because they have no one to share their happiness or sorrows with. They have a lot of stories and experiences that can share with us and I am very sure that they were very happy to see us there, not only to help them but also to accompany them. Overall, it was a good experience and I am definitely looking forward to the next spring cleaning project! :)

We would like to thank all Metro Leos, volunteers and Youth Cop members for their invaluable support to our Project Spring and for spending a meaningful morning with us to bring warmth to the elderly. Looking forward to volunteering with you all again!!:)
